SYNTHRIVE-ED™- THE STORY

Every thought, feeling, moment of learning and human connection begins with something remarkable—the ability of the brain to connect, adapt and grow. At the heart of this process is the synapse, the point where neurons communicate and new possibilities emerge. This is the inspiration behind SYNTHRIVE-ED™: SYN, from synapse, and THRIVE, representing our aspiration for every learner, educator and school community to flourish. Developed by The NeuroPathways Institute, SYNTHRIVE-ED™ brings our core commitment to schools—translating neuroscience into meaningful everyday practice. Because when we understand how the brain thinks, feels, learns, connects and grows, we can create educational environments that do more than support learning; we can create communities where people truly thrive.

MENTAL WELLNESS IN EDUCATION

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 places significant emphasis on the holistic development and wellbeing of learners, recognising that education must extend beyond academic achievement to encompass social, emotional and psychological development.

The draft National School Mental Health and Wellness Policy positions teachers as first level mentors in identifying mental health and emotional challenges of students thereby training the need for capacity building and training for teachers and educators apart from existing school counsellors.

In February 2026, CBSE directed all affiliated schools to strengthen Mental Health and Wellness and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) in accordance with guidelines arising from the Supreme Court judgment of 25 July 2025. The mandate requires all teaching and non-teaching staff to receive mental-health training at least twice a year, covering psychological first aid, identification of warning signs, response to self-harm and referral mechanisms. Schools are also expected to provide parent sensitisation, integrate mental-health literacy, emotional regulation and life-skills education into student orientation and curricular activities, maintain records of wellness interventions and referrals, and provide structured career counselling. In addition, CBSE's 2026 Affiliation Bye-Law amendment requires schools to appoint a Counselling & Wellness Teacher (Socio-Emotional Counsellor) at a ratio of up to 1:500 students, alongside career-counselling provision.

SYNTHRIVE-ED™ therefore focuses on three interconnected priorities:

Understand → Identify → Respond

Understand: Build foundational knowledge about child and adolescent development, the brain, behaviour and mental wellness.

Identify: Help educators recognise early signs that a learner may be experiencing emotional, behavioural, developmental or mental health difficulties.

Respond: Equip educators with appropriate first-line strategies, referral awareness and an understanding of professional boundaries.

The goal is not to turn teachers into therapists, but to build a school community that is mental-health literate, developmentally informed and equipped to respond appropriately.
